SPPHA NSW at EQUITANA !!!!!
On the 10th-13th November 2011 SPPHA NSW combined with the other state associations, HRA and HRNSW to present the Standardbred at Equitana under the banner of the COMBINED STANDARDBRED ASSOCIATIONS OF AUSTRALIA.
We were located in three stables in the Breed Village.
One stable was lined with pictures of Standies out and about and showing the world what they could do. We had a big screen TV and a number of DVD's playing each day with rolling shots of members (past and present) from all the states with their standardbreds competing in every possible discipline and just having fun. One great DVD showed a number of examples of horses racing, how much they had earned and then showed what they were doing now and how they got there - inspirational stuff!
(Thanks to Tanya for getting these DVD's together for the display)

The other two stables held our demo horses - examples of the breed for people to come and say hello to and to take place in the Breed Parade each day. One wonderful horse, Rocky (along with his owner Corinna), was used as a demo horse in hand and under saddle by a classical dressage trainer in the Riverina Pavillion and performed superbly. These horses represented the breed and themselves and their owners with great grace and dignity and surely convinced more than a few people to consider the Standardbred when looking for a horse.

A note from our Secretary, Corinna, below:
"Back from Equitana and now into recovery mode. The experience was tremendous and very successful for Standardbreds in their lives after racing.
Thanks to Gary Kairn and HRA for their generous support that enabled the Standardbreds to attend Equitana – and for being brave enough to wear the pink t-shirt!
Thanks to our SPPHA Equitana organiser extraordinaire Louise for her ideas, energy and enthusiasm both in preparation, set up and over the 4 hectic days of Equitana.
Thanks to our demo horses and their handlers – Jessica and Yvonne with Rene, Sarah and Souvreign, Sharon and Kim and Squirt who were such tremendous ambassadors for Standardbreds and the associations. Thanks to Sharon and Squirt for doing the Saturday led display (Rocky and I appreciated the break).
Thanks to our helpers – Ashleen, Robyn, Michele and Debbie, Tanya McDermott, and to Sarah Armstrong and Melissa Lewin who travelled all the way from Qld to help out (have I forgotten anyone … I feel like I’ve forgotten someone?! …)
To Barastoc for giving us space on their stand to put our information and for playing our promotional DVD.
To HRNSW, especially Siobhan, for their support.
Thanks to our members, to SAQ and to SPPHAV for providing a selection of lovely photos for our display wall and rolling DVD footage – our horses certainly are incredibly beautiful and versatile.
And finally (if I may be allowed to indulge) … to my wonderful boy Rocky, who was our ridden demo horse. He wowed all and sundry with his personality and ability (shameless showoff that he is) and moved people to tears with his beautiful performances. I am so very proud of him and appreciate him making me look good – especially on Sunday when I needed him to look after me.
Thanks again to everyone who was involved in making Standardbreds at Equitana such a success."
We cant wait for the next one!!

..... TRIVIA...GAMES...RAFFLE....
On Saturday 18th June 2011 the SPPHA NSW held our annual fund raising event at the Richmond Club. Traditionally we have held fund raising nights at the races at Harold Park, but with the closure of that venue we were forced to make a change. This year we held a successful Trivia Night, which was very well supported by members, their families and friends and Standardbred fans of all types.
Thank you all so very much for your support - all funds raised go towards the placement of Standardbreds looking for homes after their racing careers.

SPPHA NSW Trail Ride
(Members only). 26th & 27th June 2010 Central Coast area.

Debbie (Trump) and Corinna (Rocky) met up with the friendly folk from NagNagNag trail riding club at the beautiful Glenworth Valley (central coast) on 26th June. While there had been heavy showers the night before, the Trail Riding Gods smiled on us and the rain stayed away (except for one heavy shower just before we got back to base).

It was a pretty easy ride - entertainment provided with a number of creek crossings and
one interesting encounter with a locked gate that unlocked on the way out, but took some persuading to unlock on the way back!

It was a pleasant ride in great company - many thanks to NagNagNag for letting Debbie and I tag along with them.
